The legendary late Qawwal Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s melodies have been soothing our ears and souls for decades and have been recreated numerous times by various artists worldwide especially in the subcontinent (Pakistan & India).
Nida Nusrat, the daughter of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan has recently spoken up regarding the copyrights of her father’s songs. She said “I am the only heir of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and the copyrights of my father’s songs are only with me. How can people take financial benefits by singing my father’s songs?”
She spoke at a news conference held at the Lahore Press Club and said she will be taking legal action against those who stole her father’s songs, “After my father’s death, I possess the rights to his music. I will be taking strict legal action against the people who are using them and will also be taking them to the court. If anyone wants to sing my father’s songs, they need to seek permission from me,” she asserted.
She has also expressed her disappointment regarding the fake social media pages of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan that have been made on Facebook and other social media sites, as well as Wikipedia and said, “Even Wikipedia did not respond to my emails and now I plan to take action against it as well.” She specifically named Khokar Productions for disregarding the copyrights of her father’s music as well as some other people in India and Pakistan.
She also dismissed the rumors regarding her differences with Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, and said, “Rahat had taken the forward legacy of my father and there is no question of differences with him; he is just like a brother to me.”
