The deadly shooting at Santa Fe High School in Texas, United States took place on May 18, 2018. It took lives of 10 people and left 13 injured.
The tragedy at Santa Fe High School also broke the hearts of a family living half a world away in Karachi, Pakistan. The family of Sabika Sheikh. Sabika Sheikh was a 17 year old girl who had come to Texas, US on a foreign exchange program to study and explore the world. She was a well-informed girl. In an interview Sabika’s father Abdul Aziz said,
“She was extraordinary, genius and talented.”
But unfortunately the intelligent, smiling girl lost her life in one of the most unfortunate killings at Texas.
In an interview Sabika’s father said,
“On the day of 18th, Friday after iftar I was watching a news channel and there was a news about shooting at a Texas school. I was stuck with shock, I tried calling my daughter but she did not answer.”
Then after a few hours the news of Sabika’s death was confirmed to her family by the US exchange program officer.
He funeral prayers were offered at the Hakim Saeed Ground located in Gulshan-e-Iqbal where a large number of people including Governor Sindh Mohammad Zubair,Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah attended the funeral and consolidated the family member of the departed soul.
Earlier, a plane carrying her body arrived at Karachi Cargo Complex at 03:30am, where family along with officials from Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) received the body of teenager. A guard of honour was presented to the dead on the premises of the airport by Airport Security Force.
The boy who attacked and is responsible for the killings at the school has been identified by the police. The 17 year old, Dimitrios Pagourtzis is now in police custody.
This is the 22nd incident this year when gunman broke into a school. It is high time that the US government takes some serious action against such shootings.
